Munich, 26 July 2013. Linklaters has advised Koenig & Bauer AG in relation to the legal aspects of its purchase of Kammann GmbH in Bad Oeynhausen. Koenig & Bauer has acquired 85% of the shares, 15% remains with Kammann’s two managing directors. The previous majority shareholder, Munich-based private equity firm Perusa, had already successfully restructured and realigned Kammann over the last years. In 2012 Kammann had a total of 175 employees, generated annual sales of over EUR 30 million and posted a net profit. The acquisition is still subject to minor formal conditions.
Koenig & Bauer is one of the world’s oldest and largest manufacturers of printing presses. The company develops and manufactures technologically innovative and cost-effective printing systems, and has one of the most extensive product ranges in the industry. It is the market leader in large-format sheet-fed offset presses, packaging presses, newspaper presses and metal-decorating presses.
Following its takeover of Flexotecnica S.p.A. in December 2012, Koenig & Bauer with this acquisition of Kammann GmbH continues its successful niche strategy in the growing print market for flexible packaging. Kammann specialises in screen printing systems for direct printing on premium-quality glass and plastic packaging, such as perfume flacons. With increasing economic prosperity even in threshold countries such as China, Brazil and Russia, premium packaging is continually gaining importance as a status symbol. Market forecasts continue to predict above-average growth for this luxury segment.
