Linklaters assists merger of LGBT youth homeless charities

14 May 2013

Linklaters was pleased to advise pro bono in relation to the merger of two charities for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) young people at risk from homelessness. The Albert Kennedy Trust and Outpost Housing merged from 8 May and will now be known as AKT.

The two charities operated in different parts of the UK and had a lot in common. The merged charity aims to enhance the level of help and support they can offer to young LGBT people and operate more widely nationally.

The Linklaters team advised on structuring and appropriate due diligence. The team was led by Jarlath McGurran and supported by Derek Tong, Ellie Radburn, Leah Weldon and Andy Harris from the firm’s London office.

Richard Hodgson, Partner and Co-Chair of  Linklaters’ LGBT Network said:

“We were delighted to help with this hugely worthwhile project. The merged charity will be able to operate nationally and extend their help to more LGBT young people facing homelessness.”

AKT Chief Executive Tim Sigsworth said:

“This development would not have been possible without the support of our corporate partners, including Linklaters, who have helped AKT grow and deliver new and innovative support projects for young LGBT homeless people”.
