Nabarro acts for Google on UK HQ acquisition

17 Jan 2013

Nabarro has acted for Google on the acquisition of a site at Argent's King's Cross estate for the development of the technology giant's new UK headquarters.

Contracts were exchanged on 17th January for the grant to Google of a 999 year lease and the right to develop c750,000 square feet of office space with ground floor retail. Nabarro won the work to act for Google in a competitive pitch at the end of 2011.

The Nabarro team was led by real estate partner Marie Scott, assisted by environment partner Clare Deanesly, planning partner Christopher Stanwell and senior associates Tom Goldsmith (real estate) and Alistair McGrigor (construction) and associate Simon Pizzey (real estate).

Marie Scott commented:

"We were delighted to have won the tender for this transaction and it has been a privilege to work with the Google team over the last year on this exciting project, which has involved a number of complex real estate, planning, construction and environmental matters. We look forward to a continued involvement as the development gets underway."

Marie Scott also jointly led the Nabarro team (alongside partner Nick Collins) acting for BNP Paribas on its acquisition of a neighbouring site at King's Cross for the development of c400,000 square feet of offices and the recent forward sale of that scheme to Axa for c£300million.

Kings Cross Central Limited Partnership, the sellers of the site, were represented by a team led by Andrew Sanders, real estate partner at Berwin Leighton Paisner, assisted by associate Chris Rowe and a team at Hogan Lovells.
