Norton Rose Fulbright advises on £28.3m financing of two onshore wind farms

16 Dec 2013

Norton Rose Fulbright has advised international projects and export finance bank KfW IPEX-Bank GmbH on the financing of two onshore wind farms owned and operated by RES.

The financing takes the form of 15-year term loans to two RES project companies, funding the Tallentire Hill Wind Farm, a 12MW, 6 turbine wind farm in Cumbria, England, and Meikle Carewe Wind Farm, a 10.2MW, 12 turbine wind farm in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

Norton Rose Fulbright, led by global head of energy Simon Currie, advised KfW IPEX-Bank on the terms of the financing and the due diligence in relation to the project companies. Real estate partner Wasim Khan, senior associates Conrad Purcell and Tim Baines also advised, together with associates Sarah Jones, Laura Kiwelu, Elsa Weatherley-Godard, Michelle Savitz and Nazli Okusluk.

The financing closed on Friday December 6.

Shepherd and Wedderburn provided Scottish legal advice to KfW IPEX-Bank. Bond Dickinson and Pinsent Masons advised the borrower.

The transaction is one of a number of renewable energy financings Norton Rose Fulbright’s renewables practice has advised on in recent months. These include advising Masdar on the project financing of its 20 per cent interest in the first phase of London Array, the world’s largest offshore wind project, and advising National Australia Bank, Royal Bank of Scotland and Santander on the refinancing of onshore wind energy assets owned and operated by Infinis.

The practice has also advised on the first three successful initial public offerings of renewable energy funds on the London Stock Exchange of this year.
