Olswang has acted for iROKOtv, Africa's leading online media distribution website, in an $8m funding round from existing investors Tiger Global and Kinnevik and new investor, Rise Capital.
Dubbed 'the Netflix of Africa', iROKOtv operates a freemium model, offering over 5,000 free and paid for Nigerian 'Nollywood' film titles, making it the world's largest online catalogue of African content. One of the best-funded internet start-ups in Africa, having raised a total of $21m to date, iROKOtv has pioneered Video-On-Demand for African communities since its formation in 2011. The platform has a million monthly users from 178 countries.
Jason Njoku, CEO at iROKOtv, commented: "This fundraising will help us expand our offering and it's a vital step in our goal to be Africa's leading media company. We are grateful to the Olswang team for their responsive and efficient help."
Olswang Partner Louis Glass added: "iROKOtv is a ground-breaking business with determined founders and I'm pleased to have helped them with their fundraise. I'm excited to watch iROKOtv's story unfold and I look forward to supporting iROKOtv on future transactions."
