Akin announced that Mary Alexander has joined the firm as a tax partner in its Washington, D.C. office, further deepening the firm’s tax equity and tax credit transfer experience in the renewable energy and energy transition space.
Alexander’s practice focuses on the federal income tax aspects of energy transition transactions, including renewable energy, carbon capture, biogas property, and electric vehicles. Her clients include asset managers and other financial institutions, public and private corporations and partnerships.
“Akin continues to see robust client demand for comprehensive support with structuring renewable and new energy investments and projects, including tax equity financing,” said Akin co-chair elect Abid Qureshi. “Mary brings a valuable skillset that is highly sought after, and we’re pleased to welcome her to the firm.”
“We continue to see increased demand for counsel on tax equity financing and tax credit transfer transactions across the clean energy space,” added corporate practice co-head Zachary Wittenberg. “Mary adds depth to our practice for these investor and lender-side projects and will be a terrific resource for our clients investing in cutting-edge renewable energy projects and energy transition technologies.”
Alexander is the latest addition to the firm’s comprehensive energy & infrastructure platform over the last year, with Akin having added projects & energy transition partners Chadron Edwards in New York and April Kim in California; energy transactions partners Charlie Ofner, Trent Bridges and Ian Goldberg, private equity partner Andrew Lehman and capital markets partner Bryan Flannery in Houston; and energy transactions partner Rob Butler in London.
“Akin is a leading firm for tax equity financing and tax credit transfer transactions that are integral to funding some of the most complex renewable and new energy projects,” said Alexander on her move. “The firm’s dynamic global energy & infrastructure platform is an ideal setting to continue building my practice and I look forward to joining this growing team.”
