Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading international energy, technology, and life sciences law firm, announced that Ted Posner and Marisa White have joined the firm as partners. Ted joins the Global Projects group within the International Trade section and will serve as Head of National Security and Trade Risk Mitigation in the Washington, D.C. office. Marisa joins the Corporate Department in the New York office.
The arrival of Ted and Marisa builds on a strong year of growth for the firm. In the first half of the year, Baker Botts welcomed 15 new partners across key markets, further advancing its strategic focus on expanding key capabilities, deepening client relationships, and strengthening its presence in priority geographies.
Ted Posner advises clients on cross-border transactions, regulatory risk management, and international disputes at the intersection of national security and economic law and policy. Drawing on more than 30 years of experience in both government and private practice, he counsels companies navigating regulatory frameworks that govern cross-border investment, trade, and tariffs. Over the course of his career, he has guided clients through sensitive Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) and related national security reviews, collaborating closely with deal teams to assess jurisdictional issues, build defensible strategies, and secure regulatory clearance. For the last five years, Ted served as the Assistant General Counsel for International Affairs at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, where he led the team of lawyers that advises Treasury leadership on matters ranging from investment security to trade, to international development.
Marisa White advises private equity sponsors and their portfolio companies, as well as public and private corporations, on a broad range of complex M&A transactions, with a particular focus on the technology, energy, and healthcare sectors. With over 15 years of experience, she has led significant domestic and cross-border deals, including leveraged buyouts, recapitalizations, restructurings, joint ventures, and exits.
“Welcoming Marisa and Ted underscores the deliberate, forward-looking growth we’re driving in our high-impact areas of strength,” said Danny David, Managing Partner of Baker Botts. “Marisa pairs sharp commercial instincts with a decisive, client-first mindset which is exactly what’s needed as we scale our private equity and M&A platform. Ted brings deep regulatory insight and unmatched fluency in cross-border trade, tariff, and national security matters, bolstering a capability set that is increasingly critical to our clients globally.”
Jason Bennett, Chair of the Global Projects Department, commented: “Ted brings cutting-edge experience with the current intersection of national security and trade policy that will be invaluable to our clients, and his experience in both public and private practice makes this a great fit for our team. We are excited to add him to our strong International Trade practice and to get him in front of our clients starting today.”
Samantha Crispin, Chair of the Corporate Department, stated: “Marisa is a dynamic, results-oriented practitioner whose experience leading complex transactions and growing long-term client relationships is both a strategic and cultural fit that will further enhance our private equity and M&A practice in New York and firmwide.”
Commenting on his move, Ted noted: “Baker Botts offers a rare combination of top-tier legal talent, industry depth, and strategic clarity. I’m looking forward to working alongside such a strong team to help clients navigate complexity and drive their most important matters forward.”
Marisa added: “I’m excited to join Baker Botts and contribute to the firm’s continued momentum in private equity and M&A. The firm’s global reach, collaborative culture, and commitment to client service excellence create a compelling platform for the next chapter of my practice.”
Ted received his J.D. from Yale Law School and his A.B. from the School of Public & International Affairs at Princeton University. He is admitted to practice in New York and Washington, D.C.
Marisa earned her J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law, where she was a member of the St. John’s Law Review, and her B.A., summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey.
