International law firm Brown Rudnick LLP announced the appointment of Paul Doris as a partner in the Firm’s Energy Transition practice.
The move continues the momentum of the Firm’s strategic expansion plan announced earlier this year that focuses on investing in the technology industry and other areas where Brown Rudnick excels.
Doris’s practice focuses on joint ventures and M&A transactions within the energy transition and infrastructure space, including onshore and offshore wind, solar, floating solar, energy storage, and energy from waste. His clients consist primarily of financial sponsors, including private equity firms, infrastructure funds, pension funds and sovereign wealth funds, and investment arms of multinationals and utility companies. Doris brings deep experience executing complex, cross-border transactions; many of his clients are based across Europe and Latin America. He was previously a partner at Dentons.
Doris is the most recent addition following a number of key strategic hires made by Brown Rudnick this year, starting in January with a five-partner group led by David Sorin in New York focused on the tech industry. In September, a four-partner group led by Stephen Palley in Washington, D.C., joined the Firm’s Digital Commerce practice, propelling Brown Rudnick to the forefront of law firms advising on issues related to cryptocurrencies, digital assets, and blockchain. Other additions have included James Douglass as co-chair of the Firm’s Energy Transition practice, Jeffrey Cottle as co-practice group leader of the Firm’s White Collar Defense, Investigations & Compliance practice, and David Knight as a transatlantic IP partner in London, all of them residents of the Firm’s London office.
Vince Guglielmotti, CEO and chair of Brown Rudnick, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Paul as a partner in our Firm’s Energy Transition practice. Technology is one of the Firm’s five key pillars and Paul’s addition aligns with our world-class Energy Transition practice. His experience with cross-border transactions for clients across the U.K., Europe, and Latin America will ensure that Brown Rudnick continues to be the go-to advisor for clients in this sector.”
Mark Dorff, partner and managing director of the Firm’s Corporate & Capital Markets Department, said: “Paul is a leading advisor within the energy transition sector and brings unparalleled experience of both buy-side and sell-side M&A transactions and joint ventures in this space. His practice and deep relationships with strategic investors and financial sponsors complement the Firm’s market-leading Energy Transition practice that advises early-stage companies and large corporations right through their life cycle, from VC financings to large-scale projects, JVs and exits.”
Paul Doris, partner at Brown Rudnick, said: “Brown Rudnick’s leading Energy Transition practice and the leadership’s recognition of the value of this sector is what attracted me to the Firm. The energy transition is now on every boardroom agenda, in the way that technology considerations became ubiquitous two decades ago, only this is happening much faster and Brown Rudnick is ahead of the curve.
I look forward to collaborating with my fellow Energy Transition partners in order to deliver outstanding results for clients and build on the Firm’s strong track record as we continue to see exciting developments in the space across Europe and beyond.”
Doris attended the College of Law, London. He holds a B.A. in Common and Civil Law and Hispanic Studies from The Queen’s University, Belfast and attended the Universidad de Salamanca to study Civil Law, Constitutional Law and European Law. As a fluent Spanish speaker, he spent time practicing English law in Madrid and a number of his clients are from Spain and other Spanish-speaking countries.
