International law firm Brown Rudnick has announced the appointment of Charlotte Harris as a partner in the Firm’s Brand & Reputation Management group in London, where she will serve as lead European partner for the practice. Harris is a well-respected and highly regarded media law practitioner, with experience across areas including pre- and post-publication advice, injunctions, defamation, privacy and harassment. Her clients include corporates, high-net-worth individuals, members of Parliament (MPs), celebrities and professional athletes, and she advises companies and individuals who are subject to media attention both in the U.K. and internationally. Harris will work closely with global co-chairs Camille Vasquez and Benjamin Chew to expand Brown Rudnick’s Brand & Reputation Management practice to clients across Europe.
Vince Guglielmotti, CEO and chairman of Brown Rudnick, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Charlotte to Brown Rudnick. Brand and reputation management is one of our core practices and Charlotte’s unparalleled experience will ensure that Brown Rudnick continues to be the go-to firm in this area. Her addition to the team in London aligns with our strategic expansion plans and focus on excellence, as we continue to grow our London office as a European hub.”
Camille Vasquez, global co-chair of Brown Rudnick’s Brand & Reputation Management group, said: “We are delighted to be expanding our transatlantic Brand & Reputation Management practice with the addition of Charlotte. The media landscape is fast moving, ever expanding and increasingly complex. Charlotte’s know-how and remarkable ability to navigate this evolving landscape will ensure that Brown Rudnick clients continue to benefit from best-in-class advice to protect their reputations and build their brands.”
Benjamin Chew, global co-chair of Brown Rudnick’s Brand & Reputation Management group, said: “Charlotte’s deep understanding of media law and strong experience representing such a broad range of high-profile clients has earned her a stellar reputation in this space. She is an outstanding addition to our team as we continue to expand our thriving practice and build on our successful track record by leading complex and often groundbreaking matters.”
Charlotte Harris, partner at Brown Rudnick, said: “Brown Rudnick’s transatlantic Brand & Reputation Management group consists of an impressive cast of formidable lawyers leading the way in this field, and I am thrilled to be working with them and other colleagues across the Firm. Joining a firm with such a relentless focus on London, as well as a strong global platform, is hugely exciting.
“Media law has become a different animal and as social media continues to tip the balance of power, clients are becoming much more proactive about managing their reputation, instead of just reacting in a crisis. Brown Rudnick’s strategic focus on this practice area and well-documented successes set it apart.”
Harris joins a number of key strategic hires made by Brown Rudnick in the past year, as the Firm continues to focus on building its business across strategic areas where it is a recognized market leader. In addition to brand and reputation management, the Firm also excels in technology, life sciences, global litigation and crisis management, which includes restructuring, investigations and special situations.
Harris joined Kingsley Napley as a partner in 2015. Prior to that, she practiced at Mishcon de Reya. She has been ranked by Chambers in its Defamation and Reputation Management guide since 2007 and in its High Net Worth guide for four years. Harris is also a top recommended reputation and management lawyer by Spears 500 and was listed in The Lawyer’s Hot 100 in 2011.
Harris has appeared before various Parliamentary Select Committees, including the Home Affairs Select Committee and the Joint Select Committee on Privacy and Injunctions and in respect of media standards and privacy. She has represented many claimants in the phone hacking claims since 2007 and gave evidence before the Parliamentary Select Committee as part of the Leveson inquiry. Additionally, Harris is a popular contributor at university speaking events, including King's College, The Cambridge Union, Oxford PPE Society, UCL, Queen Mary and Westfield University.
