PARTNER MOVES - Charles Russell Speechlys strengthens its real estate disputes practice with the hire of Andrew Ross

19 Mar 2024

Charles Russell Speechlys announces the appointment of Andrew Ross as Partner in the Real Estate Disputes team. Andrew joins the Firm from Travers Smith LLP, where he headed up the Property Disputes offering.

Andrew has significant experience acting for clients in all manner of property disputes, ranging from rights of light disputes at central London developments, to shooting and fishing rights on country estates. He has acted for property funds, landlords, tenants, developers, professional sports clubs and many other types of clients.

Andrew’s recent work includes advising on and acting in claims relating to rights of light and rights of way, restrictive covenants that retrain building and LTA 1954 disputed lease renewals. He is also regularly involved in landlord and tenant, planning and construction disputes.

Prior to becoming a solicitor, Andrew was a professional historian and lecturer. This has given him invaluable insight into an area of law in which disputes often concern historic evidence and rights.

David Haines, Partner and Head of Real Estate Disputes, comments: “Andrew is an excellent hire for us, and there are no shortage of synergies between his client work and our key areas of focus – including Private Capital. We very much look forward to welcoming him into the team.”

Andrew Ross, Partner, says: “I was drawn to the Firm not just because of its reputation in Real Estate Disputes, but also in Private Capital – an area many of my clients have expressed an interest in. Joining allows me greater freedom to explore opportunities for collaboration with my new colleagues, and the benefits this can bring to my clients.”

Andrew’s hire follows four 2024 appointments by the Firm into our transactional teams. In January, two Corporate Partners (Alexis Karim and Giles Dennison) and one Banking Partner (James Walton) joined the Firm. In February, Richard Ellis rejoined as a Partner in our Financial Services Regulation & Funds team.
