DLA Piper announced today that Chris Schaeper has joined the firm’s Corporate practice as a partner in the Houston office. Schaeper’s corporate and securities experience spans a variety of industries, including steel production, tubular goods, mining and manufacturing, oilfield service, distribution, technology, medical products and hospitality. He advises clients involved in M&A transactions; dispositions of private and public entities; venture capital and related investment transactions (institutional and private); and public and private placements of equity and debt securities. In addition, Schaeper is experienced in public securities compliance and secured and unsecured financings at senior, subordinated, mezzanine and angel levels.
“Chris’ broad industry experience and skill set will strengthen and diversify our Corporate practice in Texas and nationally,” said Jay Smith, US chair and global co-chair of DLA Piper’s Corporate practice. “With deep contacts in India and other international markets, Chris will also be able to leverage our expansive global platform in his work with domestic and multinational clients with business and commercial interests around the world.”
Earlier this year, DLA Piper added Corporate partners Tony Newton and Arty Howard to the Houston office, which has nearly 30 lawyers practicing in all areas of commercial litigation, arbitration, corporate transactions, franchise and distribution, intellectual property and technology.

Schaeper joins DLA Piper from Thompson & Knight LLP. He earned his J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law and his B.A. Economics from the University of Texas, Arlington.
