Steen has joined the Firm's Global Energy Practice as a Partner in Los Angeles, adding to the Firm's rapidly-growing presence on the West Coast and strengthening its already robust transactional, infrastructure and project finance capabilities. Steen is the 50th lateral to join the Firm since the announcement of the merger with McKenna Long & Aldridge.

Steen's practice focuses on large-scale mergers and acquisitions, project financings and corporate restructurings for clients from a wide variety of industries, particularly in the energy sector.  He is highly experienced in matters related to energy, infrastructure and transportation, having advised on the development, financing and restructuring of thermal and renewable energy projects as well as oil and gas pipelines and storage facilities, telecommunications systems and more. Steen has also been the lead lawyer in numerous high-profile mergers and acquisitions in the media, entertainment, telecoms and other sectors.  Steen has represented clients before the SEC, FERC and numerous state regulatory commissions and has handled corporate and project transactions in over 20 countries.

"The global energy landscape is undergoing significant changes now, with increased power sector consolidation and large scale exploration and delivery infrastructure projects being re-imagined for the next century," said Dentons' US Managing Partner Mike McNamara. "Adding Carl's M&A experience together with his domestic and international energy transactional focus adds another strategic dimension to our West Coast team, empowering our clients to be opportunistic and competitive in this fast-changing business climate."

"I am very pleased to join the world class team at Dentons," Steen said. "I was immediately impressed with the character and vision of firm leadership across the board, and I look forward to contributing to the continued growth and success of Dentons."

Steen, a former adjunct professor at Whittier Law School, is a prolific writer who has published numerous articles on domestic and international energy financing and development. Active in the Los Angeles-area philanthropic community, he served on the Board and Directors of Goodwill Industries of Orange County from 2004-2010. He earned his JD from American University Washington College of Law and his BA from the State University of New York, Plattsburgh.
