PARTNER MOVES - Dentons appoints Richard Brown as partner in its competition team in London

25 Mar 2025

Dentons is delighted to welcome Richard Brown as a partner in its Competition team in London. Richard joins Dentons from Travers Smith, where he specialised in merger control and foreign investment review in addition to complex investigations.

Richard works with clients across a range of sectors in the UK and other jurisdictions, including financial services, private equity, retail, transport, technology and digital businesses, advising on all aspects of antitrust and competition law.

In addition to his broad-seated sectoral expertise, having acted for major international technology clients, Richard brings valuable market-leading experience of, and insights into, how the EU Digital Markets Act and equivalent, competition-law inspired UK regulatory frameworks may impact businesses.

He also brings valuable experience of assisting transactional clients to navigate the new EU Foreign Subsidies Regulation, having helped secure one of the first clearances under the regime’s transaction screening regime.

Other clients Richard has worked with include banks and other financial services providers, luxury consumer goods brands and hospitality businesses, liaising with both UK and EU regulators and courts.

Paul Jarvis, CEO of Dentons' UKIME region, said: Richard's appointment will help us meet client demand for advice on merger control, foreign direct investment, competition compliance, distribution arrangements and competition investigations, all of which continue to be growing areas of work for Dentons.

Chris Graf, Head of Dentons' UK Competition practice, said: We are very excited to welcome Richard to the firm at a time of genuine opportunity to further expand our portfolio of complex competition and antitrust work, particularly in the technology and digital sector where Richard has stand-out expertise.

Our Competition team is fortunate to advise both a number of major standalone clients as well as supporting clients across the firm, particularly those working with our busy Corporate team, whose transactions and other activities require increasingly complex competition advice on a UK and global basis.
