PARTNER MOVES - Dentons welcomes Joost Elsenburg as financial regulatory partner in the Netherlands

Global law firm Dentons has strengthened its Banking and Finance practice with the hire of Joost Elsenburg as a financial regulatory partner. He has joined the Amsterdam office, effective July 1, 2025, marking a significant step in the Firm’s strategy to expand its regulatory capabilities across Europe.

During his 20-year career, he has worked for the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM), two major financial institutions (ABN AMRO Bank and ING Bank) as well as at two international law firms. This unique combination of experience has given him a deep understanding of the complexities of the financial regulatory landscape.

Joost Elsenburg advises financial institutions, fintech companies, and regulatory bodies on Dutch and EU financial regulation. His practice spans banking, investment services, payments, anti-money laundering (AML), and crypto-assets. He has supported clients on a wide range of financial regulatory matters related to cross-border M&A and restructuring transactions, as well as license applications for financial institutions. He frequently advises clients on cross-border compliance strategies, control and policy frameworks, and remediation actions. Additionally, he provides guidance to international organizations on the nuances of Dutch financial legislation, potential exemptions and the implementation of new EU regulations.
