International law firm Simmons & Simmons has announced that it has hired technology specialist Jaap Tempelman as partner in its Amsterdam office.
With over two decades of experience, Jaap joins the firm's Digital Business practice after moving from the Netherlands office of an international law firm - where he led their commercial technology team.
Jaap specialises in all areas of law across technology, media and telecommunications (TMT), as well as in digitalisation spanning multiple sectors. He has a strong track record supporting leading clients at a cross-border and national level, including large multinational service providers, corporates and financial service organisations.
His vast expertise extends to telecommunications, business process and IT outsourcing, IT commercial contracting, data protection and cyber security, AI regulation, technology licensing and E-commerce. Jaap also has experience leading commercial litigation and corporate transactions in the tech space.
The partner hire will significantly strengthen Simmons' offer in the Netherlands, allowing the firm to better serve a number of European TMT clients based in Amsterdam, in addition to clients in Simmons' expansive global network.
Jaap's hire represents the latest expansion of the firm's fast-growing international Digital Business practice, which spans the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Dubai, Hong Kong, China and Singapore. Last week, Simmons announced the hire of four new partners in London into the practice.
Commenting on the partner hire, Leo Verhoeff, PE and Corporate M&A partner of the firm's Corporate & Commercial practice in the Netherlands: We're very pleased to have hired a tech partner with such a wealth of experience and technical expertise. Jaap will provide an immediate boost to our Digital Business capabilities in the Netherlands, and will be an integral part of the firm's rapidly expanding global offer.
On joining Simmons, Jaap commented: I'm excited to bring my expertise to Simmons' highly regarded international Digital Business practice. With businesses increasingly technology and data driven, there is growing demand for first class tech-related legal support across all sectors. Having a strong tech presence in the Netherlands is an important step for the firm, and I'm confident my experience will help it exploit these new opportunities.
