International law firm Simmons & Simmons has expanded its Energy, Natural Resources and Infrastructure (ENRI) practice with the hire of digital infrastructure specialist Waltter Kulvik.
Joining from the UK office of another international law firm, Waltter brings significant experience to the firm advising large, global corporates and funds invested in the digital infrastructure sector.
Comprising many of the assets essential for modern connectivity, digital infrastructure includes subsea and terrestrial fibre optic cables, as well as data centres, telecommunications assets such as towers and satellites and related service businesses.
Waltter holds a strong track record advising on M&A and private equity investments in the sector - working with a highly international client base which has involved cross-border transactions across the UK and Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
The partner hire will significantly expand Simmons' capabilities in the sector, strengthening its Infrastructure team and complementing its expertise in closely related sectors, including the energy and TMT sectors - providing an even more comprehensive global offering.
Waltter's hire is the fourth partner hire in the firm's ENRI practice over the last year. Simmons' ENRI team brings together international specialists working across project finance, mergers & acquisitions / joint ventures, public procurement, tax, environmental law, construction, real estate, regulation and competition. The practice is at the forefront of the firm's ongoing efforts to support the global energy transition.
Commenting on the partner hire, Iain Duncan, head of the firm's ENRI practice, said: Waltter is a leading digital infrastructure specialist and we're very pleased to have brought him into our ENRI practice. His technical expertise and experience leading on cross-border transactions provides an immediate boost to our infrastructure team, whilst also supporting the work of colleagues advising international clients in adjoining sectors.
On joining Simmons, Waltter Kulvik commented: With its international platform and market-leading expertise in many sectors complementary to my own, Simmons & Simmons is an excellent fit for my practice. The firm is highly ambitious with a strong culture of collaboration, and I look forward to bringing my expertise in the digital infrastructure space to its ENRI practice.
