DLA Piper has committed to developing its presence in Luxembourg, with a particular focus on corporate and M&A, funds and private equity, banking, finance and tax work.
As a result, the firm has appointed Catherine Pogorzelski as a Corporate partner in its Luxembourg office. Catherine joins from Arendt & Medernach where she was active in the Private Equity & Real Estate/Investment Funds group.
Catherine is a highly respected funds lawyer with extensive experience in advising investors and fund managers on the structuring, formation and management of alternative investment funds, particularly within the private equity, real estate, debt and hedge funds sectors. She also assists clients on all legal aspects impacting alternative investment fund managers, fund management entities and their service providers, including the structuring of their activities and regulatory compliance.
Catherine will be working alongside partners Jean-Michel Detry, who leads the Luxembourg team and is active in corporate M&A and corporate finance, and Koen Vanderheyden who specialises in funds, banking, regulatory finance and capital markets.
Sir Nigel Knowles, Co-Global CEO of DLA Piper, said: "Luxembourg is a world renowned centre for the investment fund industry and is often the location of choice for setting up holding companies, IP companies or group finance centres in international tax planning. Developing our presence in Luxembourg is a logical step in our commitment to assisting our clients in jurisdictions that are important to them and in our ambition to be the leading global business law firm."
Jean-Michel Detry said: "The firm is committed to building the team in Luxembourg significantly and we are delighted to welcome a partner of Catherine's calibre to the team. Catherine will permit us to develop our funds formation and funds management practice in Luxembourg."
