DLA Piper (Canada) LLP is delighted to welcome Edmond Lamek as Partner and Danny Nunes as Associate Counsel to our national Restructuring group. Both Edmond and Danny will join our Toronto office.
Edmond Lamek has wide ranging experience in all areas of Canadian and cross-border insolvency proceedings and transactions. Throughout his 25 year career Edmond has advised financial institutions and other secured and unsecured creditors, DIP lenders, landlords, corporate debtors, suppliers, boards of directors, purchasers, receivers, interim receivers, Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA) monitors, bankruptcy trustees and Chapter 11 creditors' committees. Edmond is currently acting for three major landlords in the Sears Canada Inc. CCAA proceedings and during the past year has had central roles in the receivership proceedings of HMV Canada Limited and Strellmax Ltd. (Strellson Canada).
Edmond has been repeatedly recognized as a leading lawyer by prominent guides such as The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, The Best Lawyers in Canada®, and Chambers Canada, among others. His peers have described Edmond as great on his feet, great in front of a judge and a quick thinker.
Danny Nunes practices corporate restructuring, bankruptcy and insolvency. Danny routinely acts for and advises financial institutions, creditors, debtors and Court-appointed officers in corporate restructurings, including complex cross-border Court proceedings. He also advises financial institutions with respect to security enforcement and assisting clients with the development and implementation of strategies in respect of the enforcement of security and other contractual rights and remedies. Danny recently represented a significant asset purchaser from Sears Canada Inc., and with Edmond continues to represent the Urbancorp Group of Companies in their CCAA proceeding.
Danny’s clients include corporate clients with respect to regulatory compliance issues and applicable legislation and regulatory bodies such as the Ontario Securities Commission and Mutual Fund Dealers Association.
