DLA Piper is pleased to welcome Brady Berg as a Partner in the Emerging Growth and Venture Capital (EGVC) practice. He will be based in the firm’s San Francisco and Palo Alto offices.
Berg is a seasoned corporate lawyer with more than 25 years of experience representing emerging growth technology companies, entrepreneurs, boards of directors, and investors, both in private practice and as a startup company executive. His practice covers both transactional matters, including venture capital financings, public offerings and mergers and acquisitions, as well as strategic advice to companies, investors and directors as they navigate legal issues unique to emerging growth technology companies. He frequently advises companies and investors in a variety of industries, including cybersecurity, artificial intelligence (AI), software, autonomous vehicles, robotics, and clean technology, among others.
From 2015-2019, Berg served as the General Counsel and Secretary for Cylance, a next-generation AI-based cybersecurity software company that was sold in 2019 for approximately US$1.5 billion. In this position, Berg helped Cylance raise more than US$250 million in multiple rounds of venture capital, private equity, and debt financing, led a dual-track IPO and M&A process that culminated in the successful sale of the company in 2019, and built and led a legal department that managed all global legal issues and outside law firm relationships for the company.
“We are excited to welcome Brady to the firm. His deep experience representing technology start-ups, venture capital funds, and growth companies is a natural complement to our existing platform and supports our ability to better serve our roster of innovative companies and investors in the EGVC space,” said Jeff Lehrer, US Chair of the firm’s Emerging Growth and Venture Capital group.
“Brady’s addition to the firm will help us attract and retain high-value clients, enhancing our capabilities and creating new cross-selling and business opportunities,” said Andy Gilbert, US Chair of DLA Piper's Corporate practice.
DLA Piper’s Emerging Growth and Venture Capital practice includes more than 200 lawyers who provide strategic counsel to emerging companies in high-growth industries, including technology, healthcare, pharma & biotech, financial services, manufacturing, and communications. Over the last three years, DLA Piper has completed more than 1,800 financings globally totaling over US$50 billion.
