DLA Piper is pleased to welcome Joshua Gardner as a Partner in the White Collar, Investigations, and Government Enforcement practice. He will be based in the Washington, DC office.
Gardner is an experienced first-chair trial lawyer with a track record spanning more than two decades at the US Department of Justice (DOJ). He has successfully led litigation teams through more than a dozen bench and jury trials, providing strategic counsel and guidance to the White House and federal agencies in high-profile litigation and congressional investigations within the DOJ. Gardner has tried cases in numerous district courts in every circuit in the US and has successfully litigated some of the most consequential cases involving the US.
During his time at the DOJ, Gardner served as Acting Deputy Director and Special Counsel in the Civil Division’s Federal Programs Branch, in which he was involved in high-profile litigation that often involved national security, immigration and class actions. Gardner also supervised teams of lawyers in employment discrimination litigation matters, including lawsuits challenging government decisions, policies, practices, and regulations affecting employment based on Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Rehabilitation Act, and other statutes.
He also served as the Acting Chief of Staff for DOJ’s Office of Legislative Affairs, where he was responsible for managing the Department’s response to congressional requests for information and preparing witnesses for congressional testimony.
“Josh’s background in agency practice, national security litigation, and congressional investigations will be an immediate asset to clients confronting complex and consequential government-facing matters,” said Ilana Eisenstein, Chair of DLA Piper’s US Litigation practice.
“Josh is well suited to advise clients on sensitive federal contracts, cybersecurity, and data-breach matters given his vast experience in these areas, and we look forward to working alongside him,” said William Minor, Managing Partner of the firm’s Washington, DC office.
