PARTNER MOVES - Eversheds Sutherland expands California presence with opening of Silicon Valley office and addition of high-profile litigation partner Bradford Newman

23 Jul 2025

Eversheds Sutherland is pleased to announce the opening of a new office in Silicon Valley, California, marking a significant milestone in the firm’s strategic expansion on the West Coast.

The new office is anchored by the arrival of renowned litigator Bradford Newman, a leading authority in high-stakes trade secret cases with deep experience in emerging technologies, who joins the firm as a partner in the firm’s Litigation Practice Group. Joining as the Head of Complex Technology Disputes (US), Mr. Newman’s arrival strengthens the firm’s complex litigation capabilities in California and globally.

Mr. Newman is widely recognized for his leadership in trade secret litigation and next-generation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, decentralized finance (DeFi), and digital evidence. His arrival and experience in the technology, media and telecommunications (TMT) sector significantly enhances Eversheds Sutherland’s litigation capabilities in the global high-tech market, building on the firm’s strong foundation and ongoing work with technology clients.

“Bradford’s arrival and the opening of an office in Silicon Valley represent a significant step in our commitment to support our clients’ needs in key innovation hubs,” said Lino Mendiola, Global Co-CEO of Eversheds Sutherland. “His leadership in cutting-edge legal areas, particularly in technology and emerging industries, combined with his proven ability to build and lead high-performing teams, aligns with our commitment to delivering exceptional service to clients across industries and geographies. We are proud to welcome Bradford as we continue to strengthen our capabilities in key markets and grow our global platform.”

The Silicon Valley office launch reflects growing client demand in California and across the West Coast, where several of the firm’s Fortune 100 clients who operate in the technology sector seek sophisticated litigation and regulatory counsel. The new location augments Eversheds Sutherland’s presence in the Bay Area, following the opening of the firm’s San Francisco office in 2022 and underscoring the firm’s continued investment in the region.

“Bradford’s arrival reflects our commitment to building out a preeminent litigation presence in California and to the strategic growth of our litigation group. His reputation as a tenacious and forward-thinking litigator, proven builder and consummate team player, combined with his deep ties to Silicon Valley and the TMT sector, makes him the ideal cornerstone for our West Coast litigation strategy and the launch of our new office,” said Michael Bahar and Kym Kochis, Co-Heads of the firm’s Litigation Practice Group (US).  “We look forward to the immediate impact Bradford will have now and for the long term.”

Appointed as Co-Head of the Litigation group in May of 2025, Mr. Bahar has begun helping to shape the next chapter of the firm’s litigation strategy, alongside Ms. Kochis. Mr. Newman’s addition represents one of the first key initiatives under their leadership — a move designed to create additional opportunities for cross-practice collaboration, particularly in cybersecurity, data privacy, and technology law, areas where the firm continues to see strong demand.

With a focus on trade secrets, AI, DeFi, smart contracts, and employment disputes, Mr. Newman has served as lead trial counsel in numerous high-value cases and is a trusted advisor to major clients in the technology, life sciences, and financial services sectors. He also serves as outside general counsel to a leading DeFi organization, overseeing a broad spectrum of legal matters.

“I’m thrilled to join Eversheds Sutherland at such a pivotal time,” said Mr. Newman. “The opportunity to found and build out a Silicon Valley office, and to lead a world-class litigation team in California, backed by a global platform and a forward-looking leadership team, is incredibly exciting. I look forward to helping with the continued growth of the firm’s presence in the TMT sector and beyond.”
