Eversheds Sutherland is pleased to announce that Eric D. Simanek has joined the firm’s Capital Markets & Investments Practice Group in Washington DC as partner. Mr. Simanek is an accomplished financial services attorney advising clients on regulatory compliance and product development, specifically as it relates to the Investment Company Act of 1940.
“We are excited to welcome Eric to our Capital Markets Practice Group,” said Mark D. Wasserman, Co-CEO of Eversheds Sutherland. “Eric has built an impressive practice that fits exceptionally well into our existing service platform for funds and advisers. Regulatory issues are top of mind for many of our clients, and Eric’s experience will be extremely valuable for clients navigating the complexity of compliance requirements.”
“Eric has deep regulatory compliance experience with exchange traded funds and commodity pool products that complements our existing capital markets team and our substantial investment services teams,” said Steven B. Boehm, Head of Capital Markets & Investments. “As the regulatory landscape continues to grow in complexity and size, Eric’s addition will greatly benefit our clients.”
Mr. Simanek focuses on advising mutual funds, closed-end funds, exchange-traded funds and commodity pools, and their boards of directors on regulatory compliance matters, particularly on navigating laws administered by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and National Futures Association (NFA), and state securities laws. He also counsels investment advisers on issues relating to registration and compliance policies and procedures. Eric often partners with sponsors of exchange-traded funds (including exchange-traded commodity pools) to develop and launch novel exchange-traded products. He also advises non-investment companies on issues regarding their status under the Investment Company Act of 1940.
Prior to joining Eversheds Sutherland, Eric was a partner in an international law firm. He also served as a law clerk to the Honorable William E. Smith of the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island.
