PARTNER MOVES - Five-strong London team joins Squire Patton Boggs’ global financial services practice

08 May 2025

Squire Patton Boggs has announced that Monica Gogna has joined the firm as partner and global head of Financial Regulation. Ms. Gogna was most recently head of the Financial Institutions Law Group at EY UK. She will be joined by a team of four lawyers from her previous firm, including Ayesha Corrine Singh as partner.

“We are very pleased to have Monica join our firm,” said Jim Barresi, global head of the Financial Services Group. “Monica and her team continue the significant expansion of our Financial Services practice in London and the US. They will strengthen our ability to provide practical, solution-oriented financial regulatory advice to clients on a global basis.”

Ms. Gogna focuses on advising global financial services firms, with a particular depth of expertise in asset management (public and private), funds and digital assets. Most recently, she has advised global financial institutions on strategic regulatory transformation programmes and the structuring and launch of private funds. In collaboration with EY UK Finance, Ms. Gogna led the initiative to draft the Road-Map for the launch of a UK Digital Gilt, leading to the UK Chancellor’s announcement of the DIGIT. She is noted as a ‘Leading Individual’ in Legal 500 and has been ‘personally commended’ in the FT Innovative Lawyer Awards. Most recently, she was honored as a “Visionary Leader” by International Financial Law Review (IFLR).

Ms. Singh’s practice focuses on cross-border regulatory matters, and she has a wealth of experience in funds having spent several years as associate general counsel in leading private equity houses.

“I am thrilled to be joining Squire Patton Boggs in this very exciting growth phase of the firm,” said Ms. Gogna. “The opportunity to provide our clients with a broad platform of legal services in this incredibly global firm, with a strong US Financial Services expertise was compelling. We very much hope to continue to demonstrate to our clients that we value both the ability to advise on the most strategic of their plans, with a strong emphasis on valuing the relationships we build.”

“Monica and Ayesha’s hire represents a significant investment for the firm as part of the continued development of our Financial Services Practice Group and we are excited by the opportunities that will be created through their collective expertise,” added European managing partner Jonathan Jones.

The arrival of the team follows that of Federica Taccogna and Nigel Webb, former co-heads of the Governance, Risk and Regulation practice at Interpath Advisory, who joined the firm’s Financial Services Practice Group in London last month.

In the US, the firm added partners Gabriel Yomi Dabiri to serve as Global Head of Private Credit and Direct Lending and Cassandra Borchers, a fund formation attorney.

Barresi continued, “These hires and others in the pipeline are critical elements of our strategy to build out our end-to-end suite of services supporting clients in the private capital space.”
