15 May 2025

Global law firm Squire Patton Boggs is delighted to welcome veteran federal prosecutor Megan Gaffney Painter to the firm.

She joins as a partner in the Government Investigations & White-Collar Practice after a decorated career serving as Assistant US Attorney for the Southern District of New York and most recently the Southern District of Ohio.

“Megan is an immensely talented lawyer with an impressive record of successfully prosecuting a diverse range of high stakes matters of national importance. She will be an invaluable asset to our clients across the country and will deepen our government investigations and white-collar capabilities in the New York market,” said global managing partner Michele Connell. “We are delighted that she decided to join us for this next chapter in her career.”

In her role as an Assistant US Attorney in both the Southern District of New York and the Southern District of Ohio, Ms. Gaffney Painter prosecuted an array of high-stakes criminal and appellate matters, including cybercrime, public corruption, RICO, civil rights, violent crime, fraud, and tax offenses, among others. She represented the Government in eight trials and authored multiple appeals before the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and Sixth Circuit. Her cases included the prosecution of the former Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives Larry Householder, the largest ever public corruption case in State history. She served as the Computer Hacking and Intellectual Property AUSA for the Southern District of Ohio. For her work, she received multiple awards from law enforcement agencies, including repeated recognition from the FBI.

Ms. Gaffney Painter was appointed in 2016 by former US Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio Benjamin Glassman, who now serves as deputy chair of firm’s Government Investigations & White Collar Practice and Cincinnati Office Managing Partner. “Megan is an exceptional addition to the deep bench of talent across our global investigations and white-collar practice,” said Mr. Glassman. “I have seen first-hand her extraordinary judgment, skill, tenacity, and performance. She makes our national practice even stronger and will be of great service to our clients.”

Commenting on her move to the firm Ms. Gaffney Painter added, “My years in public service have been a tremendous honor. Rejoining private practice at a firm with Squire’s scale, resources, and tremendous depth of talent is a really exciting opportunity. I am looking forward to working alongside my new colleagues and continuing the firm’s tradition of excellence.”

Ms. Gaffney Painter earned her JD from Harvard Law School and her AB, cum laude, from Harvard University. Prior to her Government service, Ms. Gaffney Painter worked as a litigation associate for a global law firm and clerked for the Honorable Richard C. Wesley on the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
