Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer LLP announced today that Steve Benz, former Head of Litigation at Eli Lilly and Company (Lilly), has joined the firm as a partner in the Life Sciences and Healthcare Regulatory practice, resident in the Washington, DC office.
Mr. Benz has extensive experience in pharmaceutical pricing, product liability litigation, government investigations, and compliance counseling matters, core foundations of the firm's globally recognized life sciences practice. Most recently, he served as Head of Litigation at Lilly, where he was involved in handling government investigations both in the US and abroad; counseling on litigation risk, strategy, and financial impact; working on SEC disclosures and company accruals for litigation; leading anti-corruption legal strategies, including transactional due diligence; and advising on government affairs issues. Mr. Benz was Assistant General Counsel at Lilly from 2000-2014.

Mr. Benz began his legal career in private practice where he focused on complex commercial litigation, antitrust, and financial transactions.
Mr. Benz earned his JD from the University of Virginia School of Law. He received his BA from the University of Kentucky, with distinction. A former captain in the US Air Force, he served as chair of Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America's (PhRMA) Law Section Executive Committee.
