PARTNER MOVES - Fried Frank continues to grow asset management practice with partner Steven Homan

19 Mar 2025

Fried Frank announced that Steven Homan has joined the firm as a partner in its global Asset Management Practice in New York. He joins from Simpson Thacher, where he was a partner in the firm’s private funds practice.

Homan advises clients on the sponsoring and management of private equity funds, including buyout funds, real estate funds, credit funds, infrastructure funds, co-investment funds and hedge funds. He also has experience advising on investment management M&A and other aspects of private investing in alternative asset classes. In addition, he provides counsel on securities laws and regulations, including the structuring and marketing of funds.

“Steve’s experience advising prominent financial institutions on the sponsoring and management of their alternative investments closely aligns with our market-leading Asset Management Practice,” said Lawrence N. Barshay, founder and head of Fried Frank's Asset Management Practice. “As our work in alternative investments continues to grow, adding Steve to our team reinforces our commitment to providing clients with top-tier counsel at all stages of their funds’ life cycles.”

“We are proud to welcome Steve to Fried Frank,” said Kenneth I. Rosh, chairman of Fried Frank and co-head of the firm’s Asset Management Practice and Private Equity Funds Group. “His addition allows us to further expand our capabilities while continuing to provide high-quality counsel to our clients.”

Led by partners Barshay and Rosh in the United States and Kate Downey in Europe, Fried Frank’s global Asset Management Practice provides top-tier advice on all aspects of funds, managed accounts and other investment vehicles, including fund formation, negotiation of managed accounts and advisory agreements, structuring management companies and compensation arrangements, spinouts, seeding and stakes transactions, documentation of prime brokerage and other trading arrangements and advice regarding ongoing operations. The practice is consistently top-ranked by Chambers and Partners and Legal 500 in both the United States and United Kingdom, and has been recognized as one of Law360's Practice Groups of the Year for the past five consecutive years.

This announcement follows a series of strategic hires across Fried Frank’s New York, Washington, DC, and London offices over the past year. Recently, the firm announced the arrivals of Dabney O’Riordan as a partner in both the Litigation Department and Asset Management Practice in Washington, DC, and Oliver Currall as an incoming partner in the Tax Department in London. The Asset Management Practice, in particular, has welcomed partners Aranpreet Randhawa in London, as well as Amy Johnson and Audra Cohen in New York. Other notable additions include Roger Schofield, who joined as partner in the Corporate Real Estate Practice in London; a trio of partners – Rachel C. Strickland, Daniel I. Forman and Andrew S. Mordkoff – who formed the new global Restructuring Department in New York, as well as Geoff O’Dea as partner in the Restructuring Department in London; Monica Thurmond as partner in the Finance Practice in New York; and Todd Pollock as partner in the Tax Department in New York.
