PARTNER MOVES - Gowling WLG welcomes new partner Erik Goldsilver to its international mining group

22 Sep 2022

Erik Goldsilver, a lawyer with more than 20 years’ experience helping mining companies through the full lifecycle of their projects, has joined Gowling WLG’s international Mining Group.

Based in the firm’s Toronto office, Erik has an extensive background in matters involving mining and natural resources, both domestically and internationally. His practice focuses principally on mining law, including in-depth experience with streaming transactions and royalty agreements.

“We’re thrilled to have Erik join our global team, and I know his experience with Canadian mining companies, in particular, is going to be a big asset for our clients,” said Ian Mitchell, partner and head of the firm’s Canadian Mining Group. “His skillset and industry acumen will be a great compliment to the strength and breadth of our current practice.”

Erik is well-versed in all aspects of the development, construction, and operation of mining projects. He has advised on Indigenous issues and claims, environmental and regulatory compliance matters, and permitting issues, as well as mine closure, decommissioning, and reclamation issues.

“The mining industry in Canada is in a state of transition, and companies are redefining their strategic objectives to focus more on net zero and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives,” said Erik. “Gowling WLG has been a trusted adviser in this space for many years, and I’m eager to help our clients navigate new legal challenges in the years ahead, both at home and abroad.”

Among other accolades, Erik has been recognized in the 2022 edition of Lexpert/American Lawyer Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada, as well as the 2022 edition of Chambers Canada – Canada’s Leading Lawyers for Business.
