PARTNER MOVES - Herbert Smith Freehills adds Lachlan Clancy as energy partner in Tokyo

25 Oct 2023

Leading international law firm Herbert Smith Freehills has hired Lachlan Clancy as an energy partner in Tokyo.

His appointment reflects the firm's ongoing investment in its energy practice, and follows the hire of Singapore energy partner Anthony Patten in September.

Lachlan has extensive experience in the energy and mining industries, including energy transition project and transactions, said Asia Head of Corporate Andrew Blacoe. Our Japanese clients are active investors in this sector, and his hire strengthens our ability to advise on their investments into Asia, the Middle East, Australia and Europe.

The two new partners join a regional energy team that spans Beijing, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Singapore and Tokyo, and that works seamlessly as part of the firm's 700-strong global energy team.

Anthony and Lachlan have worked together for over a decade and boast top-level client relationships in the energy and mining industries, said Asia managing partner Graeme Preston. At such a critical time for energy transition investment, their appointments strengthen both the firm's energy credentials and its ability to respond to growing client demand in Asia and beyond.
