Global law firm Hogan Lovells announced that Jonathan Lewis has joined as a capital markets partner in the firm’s Corporate & Finance Practice group in the São Paulo office.
“We are delighted to welcome Jonathan to the firm,” said James Doyle, Global Head of the Corporate & Finance Practice group. “He is recognized as a leading international capital markets lawyer in Brazil, and his addition to the firm aligns with our goal to continue to expand our cross-border capital markets and corporate transactional capabilities, which are strategic priorities for the firm and many of our clients.”
Jonathan provides New York law and English law advice to clients in a wide range of corporate and financial transactions, including equity and debt offerings, liability management transactions, restructurings, cross-border financings, mergers and acquisitions, private equity and strategic investments. He advises companies on corporate governance and securities reporting and disclosure matters, with a particular focus on foreign private issuers. His work includes complex high yield financing transactions and advising high profile SEC reporting companies based in Brazil.
“Jonathan strengthens our global capital markets team as we continue to expand in key markets,” said John Beckman, Head of Capital Markets, Americas. “He has extensive experience representing issuers, underwriters, selling shareholders, and sponsors across several key sectors - including financial services, transportation, and energy. The addition of Jonathan comes on the heels of another capital markets partner, Rupa Briggs, who joined the firm in New York in February.”
Commenting on his decision to join the firm, Jonathan said: “Hogan Lovells has an outstanding reputation in Brazil that reflects its impressive global platform. The firm has an internationally recognized practice with a formidable track record advising on significant corporate and finance transactions throughout the region. I’m excited to be part of this dynamic team.”
“Jonathan is an accomplished dealmaker with a reputation of helping clients navigate increasingly complex cross-border transactions taking place in Brazil and across Latin America,” said Isabel Costa Carvalho, Office Managing Partner of the firm’s São Paulo office. “His arrival marks a significant boost to our already high-performing team in Brazil; he’s known in the market for his entrepreneurial spirit and we’re thrilled that Jonathan decided to join us.”
