PARTNER MOVES - Leading arbitration partner joins Clyde & Co’s Asia Pacific commercial arbitration team

10 Sep 2013

As part of its continued strategic expansion in the Asia Pacific region, Clyde & Co is pleased to announce the addition of Prakash Pillai to the firm’s Asia Pacific international arbitration team, based from its Singapore JLV office.

Prakash Pillai joins Clyde & Co Clasis Singapore from Rajah & Tann where he was head of the firm’s South Asia practice. Alongside extensive experience with international commercial arbitration and commercial litigation, Prakash has a primary focus on India and South Asia, and in particular on the interplay between India and other international jurisdictions. His pan-Asian experience reaches across a range of sectors including aviation, automotive, financial services, engineering, projects & construction, IT/telecommunications and real estate.

Commenting on his move, Prakash said “On the back of the ongoing rise of Singapore as a seat for international arbitration, Clyde & Co is ideally placed to address the complex arbitration and litigation issues of international clients across the region; this is something I have been hearing for a while, from a number of quarters. The firm’s international network likewise provides an excellent platform for me to continue my personal focus on India and South Asia, as well as providing an enhanced capability to link up clients across and into other international markets.”

Steven Lim, partner at Clyde & Co Clasis Singapore, said “The SIAC’s annual statistics consistently place India as one of the biggest uses of the SIAC. Prakash has developed a leading India and South Asia practice focusing on international arbitration. I look forward to working with Prakash on our international arbitration and Singapore disputes practice. I have known him for many years and he brings strong synergies to the practice.”

Prakash is recognised as a leading lawyer by legal directories including Global Arbitration Review, Chambers Global and IFLR. The former vice chairman of the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry sits on a number of boards of companies in Singapore and is the chairman of the Public and International Law Committee of the Singapore Law Society and vice chairman of its Publications Committee.

Worldwide, Clyde & Co’s international arbitration team consists of over 200 qualified lawyers, including over 60 partners. At any one time the firm is working on over 500 arbitrations across a multitude of jurisdictions. Many members of the core team, which now includes Prakash, are actively involved in leading arbitral bodies or with industry-specific institutions.

Clyde & Co has a distinct focus across a core set of sectors including international trade, infrastructure, insurance, transportation and natural resources. The firm is well known for its extensive involvement with emerging markets and for its experience and expertise in relation to high profile and complex multi-jurisdictional dispute resolution.
