PARTNER MOVES - Leading project finance duo join Baker Botts in London

02 Apr 2025

Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading international energy, technology, and life sciences law firm, is thrilled to announce the addition of Nabil L. Khodadad and Alistair Wishart to its Project Finance Group in London. Khodadad will also serve as Head of Project Finance for the firm’s international offices.

Khodadad brings extensive experience advising on high-profile projects across sectors including oil and gas, petrochemicals, pipelines, conventional and renewable power, mining and metals, energy transition, and ports. He has advised on projects in over 35 countries, with significant expertise in Eastern Europe, Central Asia, the Caucasus and the Middle East. Previously, he was global head of the project finance practice and head of the Middle East and CIS practices at Vinson & Elkins.

Wishart specializes in energy and infrastructure projects, focusing on traditional energy, petrochemicals, and energy transition projects and has particular expertise negotiating engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contracts for those projects. He has guided clients through the development and operational stages of large-scale projects. He also joins from Vinson & Elkins, where he collaborated closely with Khodadad.

The addition of Khodadad and Wishart follows the recent arrival of Global Projects partner Mark Castillo-Bernaus in London, as well as Veronica Relea in New York and Matt Gurch in Washington D.C. Over the past year, the firm has significantly strengthened its project finance group with these notable hires and has welcomed nine partners globally since January.

“We are thrilled to welcome Nabil and Alistair to Baker Botts,” said Danny David, Managing Partner. “Their unparalleled expertise and deep-rooted relationships in the project finance sector further enhance our ability to deliver strategic advice in project finance around the world.”

Mark Rowley, Partner-in-Charge of the firm’s non-U.S. offices, noted, “Nabil and Alistair’s arrival significantly strengthens our project finance capabilities in key international markets. Their deep expertise and proven track record in Europe, Central Asia, the Caucasus, and the Middle East will enable us better to support our clients in these exciting and challenging markets.”

“Joining Baker Botts represents a tremendous opportunity to collaborate with a dynamic and internationally respected team,” said Khodadad. “I look forward to contributing to the firm’s success in high-profile, complex project financings, particularly in energy and infrastructure projects.”

“Baker Botts is known for its world-class expertise in energy projects,” said Wishart. “With the firm’s impressive global reach, I’m eager to support clients in navigating the complexities of energy and large-scale project development across multiple jurisdictions.”
