International TMT law firm Olswang has boosted its offering with the arrival of Spanish criminal law expert Enrique Bacigalupo and Corporate Partner Eduardo Coca to its Madrid office.
Formerly a Partner at DLA Piper, Enrique Bacigalupo's professional and academic background has made him one of the most prestigious jurists in criminal law. Member of the Spanish Supreme Court from 1987 to 2011, Enrique has been part of a number of tribunals dealing with very relevant criminal cases in Spain. He is also a Professor of Criminal Law, with a long academic career across many countries: he lectures at the University of Buenos Aires and at the Universidad Complutense in Madrid; has been a professor at the Universidad San Pablo CEU, Universität Bonn, Freie Universität Berlin, and Universidad de Chile. He has also been a member of the drafting committees for the first unifying project of the EU Criminal and Criminal Procedural Law (Corpus Iuris for the protection of financial interests in the EU). In addition, Enrique has been granted honoris causa doctorates from several universities. Enrique will combine his consultancy work for A25-Abogados y Economistas, which he set up after leaving DLA Piper, with his role as Of Counsel at Olswang, where he will focus on supporting the firm with increasingly important aspects of criminal law that apply to businesses, especially on insolvency and restructuring matters.
Qualified both in Spain and England and Wales, Eduardo Coca specialises in advising internet and technology high growth companies throughout all stages of their development: incorporation and founder's agreements, F&F financings, angel and venture capital financings, and liquidity events through mergers and acquisitions. Prior to joining Olswang, Eduardo worked at Spanish firm Garrigues, and at global firms Allen & Overy and DLA Piper, as well as at Nabarro, after which he founded his own law firm. At Olswang Eduardo will focus on advising angel investors and venture capital funds investing in internet and technology companies, as well as on cross-border M&A transactions and private equity work within the technology and the energy sectors.
Javier Vasserot, Olswang Spain Managing Partner, commented: "Since the opening of the Madrid office in 2010 Olswang Spain has continued to grow steadily and expanded its capability to meet client demand. The arrival of Enrique and Eduardo is testament to our commitment to bringing the best talent and expertise to match the evolving nature of the Spanish market, as well as supporting the wider international Olswang network with a cross-border and sector-focused approach."
