Hugues Martin-Sisteron joins Orrick’s Energy & Infrastructure practice in Paris as a partner, focusing on project development and financings.
Hugues is the 12th partner addition in 2025 to Orrick’s global E&I platform – a sector that has comprised nearly half of the firm’s global hiring this year. He is also the fourth partner hire in Paris in 2025, following European competition counsel Chimène Faurant, E&I and tech M&A advisor Bruno Romagnoli, and tax partner Cécile Mariotti.
Hugues advises the most sophisticated sponsors, developers, and lenders (commercial and DFIs) in the energy (notably renewables), infrastructure and natural resources sectors, across Europe, Africa and South America.
He joins from Clifford Chance and began his career at White & Case.
For 1H 2025, Orrick ranks No. 3 for telecoms, No. 4 for infrastructure and No. 6 for offshore wind in Europe by deal volume (Infralogic) and No. 1 for M&A in France by deal volume (Mergermarket), driven largely by activity in the E&I sector.
“Hugues is a rising star with experience working on the most sophisticated project development and financing transactions. I’ve witnessed firsthand his tremendous skill and high level of service, working on deals across from him,” said Paris E&I partner Christophe Lefort.
Hugues has recognized expertise in Africa and brings in-depth knowledge of various national and regional legal systems and regimes such as the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC), the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU), and the Organization for the Harmonization of Business Law in Africa (OHADA).
Among his recent experience in Africa, Hugues advised Axian Energy in Senegal on the development and financing of the largest photovoltaic project in West Africa incorporating a battery storage system; Infinity Power on the World Bank Group's Scaling Solar program in Senegal; Meridiam and EDF on the development and financing of the largest biomass power plant in West Africa in the Ivory Coast; and EAIF and FMO on the financing of several solar power plants in Burkina Faso.
“I’m honored to join Orrick and work with such a well-recognized and dynamic team, led by Yves Lepage, Paul Loisel, Geoffroy Berthon, and Christophe Lefort, collaborating with our teams in Paris and across Europe, Asia, and the U.S. to support companies, sponsors and lenders on their most innovative projects and financings globally,” said Hugues.
Orrick’s E&I teams in Paris recently advised Octopus Energy Generation on the acquisition of two solar projects with a combined capacity of 80 MW from renewable energy company BayWa r.e.; Access Capital Partners and CVC DIF on the disposal of their interests in France LNG Shipping to KKR-backed Ocean Yield AS; InfraRed Capital Partners on the acquisition of 100% of the shares of Proximus Luxembourg Infrastructure, an independent telecommunications tower company in Luxembourg; fiber company Losange on its €735 million long-term refinancing; and the French Directorate General for Energy and Climate on the competitive bidding process to develop two floating offshore wind projects in the Mediterranean Sea.
