International law firm Simmons & Simmons has announced that structured finance and derivatives (SFD) partner Matthew Monahan will join its financial markets practice in London.
Joining Simmons after 20 years at City firm Linklaters, Matthew brings extensive experience as a specialist in structured products, OTC derivatives transactions and synthetic securitisation, commanding a strong track record on a number of market-leading transactions.
His hire represents a significant boost to Simmons’ wider structured finance offering, enhancing the firm’s structured products capabilities, expanding its derivatives practice, and supporting its position as a market-leader in significant risk transfer transactions and synthetic securitisation – at a time of market growth.
Taking up his new role in November, Matthew is expected to draw on his established relationships with major clients in the financial institutions (FI) sector, whist also leveraging Simmons’ strong Asset Management and Investment Funds (AMIF) client base.
On joining Simmons, Matthew commented: “Simmons has one of the leading structured finance and securitisation practices in the market and I’m excited to be joining the firm as it looks to further expand its offering in this area. I am looking forward to helping clients on a wide range structured finance transactions.”
Michael Lorraine, partner and Head of the firm’s UK Structured Finance and Derivatives Group, said: “Matthew brings vast expertise across structured finance and derivatives and has an exceptional record in advising on market leading transactions in this area. We’re delighted that he’ll be joining the team, in what demonstrates the firm’s commitment to further expanding our securitisation and structured products practices. We expect Matthew to play a pivotal role in helping the team to grow in the years ahead.”
