Multinational law firm Pinsent Masons has hired construction disputes specialist Edward Shaw in London.

Ed specialises in construction, engineering and infrastructure dispute resolution with a particular focus on issues arising from projects in the energy sector – including renewable energy and nuclear power projects.

Sam Boyling, co-head of Pinsent Masons’ construction advisory and disputes practice said, “Construction projects are becoming increasingly complex and are facing ever evolving regulatory challenges including net zero targets. This is particularly true for projects in the energy sector which are often very large-scale and long-running in nature. Ed has spent a career advising international contractors on disputes arising from some of the world’s largest energy projects and brings a wealth of expertise to the team.”

Ed joins from DLA Piper and advises contractors operating internationally on projects where disputes have arisen, including projects in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Eastern Europe, Pakistan, Turkey as well as the UK. He has particular experience in advising Chinese, Korean and Turkish contractors.

Ed said of his appointment, “It is an exciting time for the energy sector with lots of momentum from investors; but factors including the pivot towards new technologies, price volatility, geo-political risk, joint ventures and complex financing arrangements have significantly changed the nature of disputes across the industry. Ed’s hire is another example of the firm’s continued investment in its construction advisory and disputes practice. Last month, the firm announced the appointment of partner James Cameron, who joined from specialist construction and energy practice, Fenwick Elliott.
