Leading law firm Shoosmiths is continuing its ambitious growth strategy in the North West with the appointment of Elia Montorio as corporate partner in its Manchester office.
Described by Legal 500 as ‘brilliant’ and an ‘exceptional deal counsel’, Elia has built a reputation as one of the leading corporate lawyers in Manchester over the last decade, regularly appearing in the Insider North West’s Top 100 Most Influential Businesswomen league table. Joining from DLA Piper where she was a partner for over 20 years, Elia’s impressive career has won her numerous accolades - most recently being named the ‘Corporate Leader of the Year’ award for the North West, Ireland and Wales at the Forward Ladies awards and being voted as one of the top 50 most powerful business women by Northern PowerWomen.
Joining Shoosmiths, Elia’s work will focus on supporting UK and overseas publicly listed and large private companies on their mergers and acquisitions and growth strategies. Her appointment comes as the Shoosmiths Manchester corporate team celebrates recent record deal activity, advising on over £1.5 billion worth of transactions throughout 2021 alone.
Stephen Porter, head of Shoosmiths corporate division, said: “This exciting appointment marks the start of a new chapter for our Manchester corporate team, as we look to build upon our successful practice in the North West. Elia’s strong client service ethos and proactive and commercial approach aligns to the values of Shoosmiths, and we can’t want for her to join the team.”
Elia commented: “The Shoosmiths Manchester team has built an impressive reputation to date. It’s a really pivotal time to be joining the firm within such a thriving market, and I’m looking forward to playing my part in the continued growth of the corporate team both locally and nationally.”
