PARTNER MOVES - Simmons hires ENRI M&A specialist in Milan office

07 Feb 2025

International law firm Simmons & Simmons has boosted its Italian and international energy, natural resources and infrastructure (ENRI) capabilities through the hire of partner Tommaso Tomaiuolo in its Milan corporate and commercial practice with a team composed by Andrea Pototschnig, Giulio D’Argento and Gianluca De Donno.

Joining Simmons after leading the Italy ENRI practice at a global law firm, Tommaso brings significant experience as an energy M&A lawyer, with particular expertise in renewables, hydrogen and infrastructure projects, developed over a decade in some of the world’s leading law firms across London, Milan and the Middle East.

The new partner hire will not only immediately strengthen the ENRI capabilities of its Milan office, but also support a range of international clients through the firm’s influential ENRI cross-border group – where there is increasing demand for expertise on multi-jurisdictional projects with a strong Italian focus.

Tommaso’s extensive international expertise also includes strong knowledge of the Middle East energy market, with the partner having previously been based in the region at his former firm.

Commenting on the partner hire, Dario Spinella said: “We’re very pleased to have secured the hire of Tommaso – a highly experienced, senior ENRI M&A lawyer with a strong global outlook. Tommaso’s expertise and connections will be essential as we respond to increasing demand from clients both domestically and internationally.”

On joining Simmons, Tommaso Tomaiuolo commented: “Simmons is a fantastic platform for my network and practice. It’s a great time to join the firm with an increase in opportunities to support clients on complex cross-border ENRI matters. I look forward to collaborating closely with colleagues in Milan and across the firm’s extensive global network.”
