PARTNER MOVES - Simmons & Simmons secures leading competition partner as UK head

20 Jan 2025

International law firm Simmons & Simmons has announced the hire of leading competition lawyer Sarah Smith as partner and head of its UK competition and antitrust team based in London.

Sarah joins Simmons from another international law firm, where she was head of its UK competition team.

A highly ranked, high-profile senior competition lawyer, Sarah brings an exceptional track record to the firm, representing leading clients in complex, multi-jurisdictional cases. Her practice spans the full spread of competition work, including behavioural advice, investigations, transactional work and litigation.

Sarah has experience operating across multiple sectors – with particular expertise in the healthcare and life sciences (HLS) and technology, media and telecommunications (TMT) sectors.

Sarah’s in-depth competition experience, coupled with her litigation expertise, is a significant addition to Simmons’ competition, litigation and class action practices.

Patrick Boylan, Head of Simmons’ UK Dispute Resolution Group, commented: “Securing a partner of Sarah’s calibre and experience as our new competition head is a significant boost for the firm. With her wide expertise and strong leadership skills, she will be an integral partner in our wider practice. We’re thrilled to have her on the team.”

Sarah Smith commented: “Simmons has an excellent platform for leading competition and competition litigation matters, and I’m delighted to be joining as UK head. With growing demand from clients for expertise in highly complex competition cases, it’s an exciting time to bring my expertise to the firm as it looks to grow the practice further”.

Ombline Ancelin, Co-head of the firm’s Competition, Antitrust & Trade cross-border group, said: “Sarah’s international experience will be an important asset for our work supporting multi-national businesses facing complex issues through the firm’s competition cross-border group. We look forward to collaborating closely on national and European-wide matters.”
