McGuireWoods continues the expansion of its nationally recognized private equity team with the arrival of New York partner Bharath Mohan, who brings experience leading multibillion-dollar deals and structuring high-value investments for clients across the globe.
Mohan represents prominent private equity and growth equity firms, multinational corporations, and strategic buyers and sellers in industries throughout the United States and abroad. He also counsels corporate boards and executives on complicated transactions. Mohan has led deal teams in cross-border agreements involving stakeholders in the United States, Europe, Central America and Asia. He comes to McGuireWoods from Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison.
“Bharath combines sharp legal acumen with a keen eye for clients’ strategic and financial objectives,” said Richard W. Viola, deputy managing partner of McGuireWoods’ corporate practice. “He will play an important role expanding the reach of our top-tier private equity team.”
McGuireWoods’ private equity lawyers advise institutional investors, independent sponsors, emerging managers, family offices, investment advisers, management teams and lenders. The firm represents funds and investors across the capital stack — from early-stage venture and growth capital to middle-market buyouts, control investments, mezzanine financing, junior capital and senior debt.
“Bharath’s skill in negotiating global transactions and crafting customized agreements for investors and companies of all sizes has enormous benefits for clients,” said Tom Zahn, chair of the firm’s Corporate & Private Equity Department.
McGuireWoods earned nationwide rankings for its M&A and private equity deal work in the Chambers USA and Legal 500 United States guides. In addition, the firm’s international Independent Sponsor and Emerging Manager programs distinguish McGuireWoods as the preeminent law firm for emerging private investment fund managers.
“McGuireWoods has an innovative and entrepreneurial private equity team that understands clients’ business goals and the firm has the resources to deliver comprehensive legal solutions for their unique needs,” Mohan said. “I am excited to be part of this thriving practice.”
Mohan’s arrival in McGuireWoods’ New York office follows the recent additions of project finance partner Sharaf Islam and partner Andrew Skowronski, who advises clients on executive compensation agreements and employee benefits matters related to private equity and strategic M&A deals.
“Bharath’s experience leading sophisticated private equity deals further enhances our transactional capabilities in New York and firmwide,” said Jeffrey Chapman, managing partner of the firm’s New York office.
