PARTNER MOVES - Womble Bond Dickinson strengthens international arbitration team with new partner hire

06 Aug 2025

International law firm Womble Bond Dickinson (WBD) has appointed Adrian Jones as a partner in the firm’s commercial disputes team.

Adrian’s extensive experience across a broad array of complex international arbitration cases adds strength and dimension to WBD’s capabilities in international arbitration and disputes. Moving from Hill Dickinson LLP, Adrian has handled a variety of cases, including investor-state, energy, financial services, joint venture and shareholder disputes. Adrian’s appointment expands the firm’s offerings in these areas on both sides of the Atlantic.

Adrian Jones explained:  “This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a truly forward-looking global arbitration practice. In an era where natural resources companies are navigating increasingly complex regulatory environments, cross-border commercial disputes require not just legal precision but deep industry knowledge. I look forward to helping clients resolve high-stakes matters with clarity and confidence.”

Paul Stewart, WBD UK Managing Partner, added:  “Adrian’s arrival further strengthens our international arbitration practice across the US and the UK. As we continue to grow our business, the decades of experience that Adrian brings will both add to our specialised practice areas in the UK and enhance our existing practices, particularly in the financial institutions and energy sectors. We are delighted that he has decided to join us.”

The move will see Adrian work closely with WBD’s International Disputes Practice led by Alexandre de Gramont in the firm’s Washington DC office.

Alexandre de Gramont commented: “Adrian’s significant expertise working on high-profile international arbitration cases and strategic advisory work will significantly enhance our transatlantic capabilities. His arrival marks a pivotal moment in our continued expansion across key global markets and underscores our commitment to delivering seamless, world-class legal solutions to clients operating between the UK and North America, and more broadly, around the world.”

Adrian has represented clients in high-value and complex international arbitration cases for more than 20 years under many of the world’s leading international arbitration regimes, including, for example, the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and London Court of International (LCIA) and the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID). His experience includes disputes arising out of a variety of contractual instruments as well as bilateral and multilateral investment . and foreign investment laws.

Adrian has handled commercial and investor-state arbitrations in disputes arising from transactions across Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Russia.

Adrian's arrival follows WBD’s recent appointment of corporate partner Colin Graham, who joined from Gide Loyrette Nouel, and who has extensive expertise in international energy, infrastructure and M&A projects.
