RPC advises Marsh on new acquisition in Scotland

05 Mar 2014

City law firm RPC has advised Marsh on its acquisition of Central Insurance Services, the leading independent insurance broker in Scotland. Marsh is a global leader in insurance broking and risk management, with approximately 27,000 colleagues working together to serve clients in more than 100 countries.

Central Insurance Services employs about 130 people across its offices in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Kendal. It provides insurance broking and risk advisory services to companies of all sizes across industry sectors, with particular interest in Scotland’s oil and gas sector as well as financial services, construction and agriculture.

The transaction, which has now completed, will cement Marsh's already strong leadership position in Scotland.

RPC advised Marsh on the full range of legal issues relating to the transaction, including corporate, employment, pensions, regulatory issues, banking, tax and real estate.

James Mee, Head of RPC’s Corporate Insurance Group, and who had overall responsibility for the transaction, comments: “We are delighted to have assisted Marsh with the full range of legal advice it needed to complete this transaction.  Bluechip businesses in the insurance sector like Marsh are increasingly turning to us to advise them on corporate matters."

“Our Corporate Insurance Group has gone from strength to strength as a result of RPC’s deep rooted relationships and expertise in the insurance sector combined with the quality and breadth of our corporate offering. This unique combination means that we are perfectly placed to advise insurance businesses on the most complex, high value corporate matters.”

RPC’s team was led by Consultant Peter Hill, assisted by Senior Corporate Associate Neil Brown.
