Shoosmiths assists Bellway Homes in ambitious plans for expansion in Scotland

25 Sep 2015

Following appointment to the Scottish panel in 2013, Shoosmiths real estate team is supporting Bellway Homes in its ambitious investment drive North of the Border, providing expert legal advice on both development acquisitions and plot sales.

Bellway recently announced plans to acquire more than 100 acres of land in Scotland during the coming 12 months, creating roughly 1250 new homes and Shoosmiths are delighted to be able to assist them in achieving this target.

Most recently, Shoosmiths have been instructed to act for Bellway in the proposed acquisition of a key second phase at Ferry Village, Braehead near Glasgow. Located opposite Braehead Shopping Centre, the site is part of a large residential development site offering excellent local facilities and transport links. Having advised Bellway in the first phase, Shoosmiths continue to provide a comprehensive legal service to facilitate delivery of the second phase, due to complete at the end of September and which will more than double Bellway's footprint at Braehead.

Bellway Homes, headquartered in Newcastle, is one of the most successful property house builders in the UK and have earned an enviable reputation in the residential property development market, built on the pillars of quality, service and trust.
Real estate partner Janette Speed leads the team in Scotland with support from associate Laura Bloxham on development acquisitions together with support from the firms' specialist plot sales team.

Willie McDermott, land director at Bellway Homes said: 'Janette and the team at Shoosmiths gave us exceptional advice on all aspects of the investment from the initial acquisition right through to finalising contracts for plot sales. Given their growing reputation as the 'go to' legal experts in the residential development sector, they were the obvious choice when it came to appointing advisors and it has been a pleasure to work with them again.'

Fraser Conn, Sales & Marketing Director, Bellway Homes Ltd (Scotland) added, 'The conveyancing team have been very supportive of our growth in Scotland and have helped us to continue to deliver an excellent customer service which is crucial in our industry. It's a fast paced and often complex environment and the team's ability to respond quickly and effectively is just what we need.'

Shoosmiths partner Janette Speed, said: 'Our real estate team has worked with Bellway Homes on a number of exciting projects and are pleased to be able to continue to advise them on their latest investment. We wish them every success with the Ferry Village development.'

Shoosmiths' Real Estate Group is one of the largest in the UK.
