Taylor Wessing advises Caledonia Investments plc on the sale of its high profile London asset for £80.6m

02 Nov 2017

Taylor Wessing has advised Caledonia Investments plc (Caledonia) on its £80.6m disposal of a high profile London members club, The Sloane Club, to a JV between Queensway Group and Clearbell Property Partners.

The Sloane Club was originally acquired by Caledonia in 1991. Since then, Caledonia has undertaken a significant extension of the Club as well as upgrading many of the facilities and increasing the number of rooms available for members. The Club has been run for most of the period of Caledonia’s ownership by Tony Murkett, Managing Director, who will remain with the Club following the sale.

Commenting on the sale, Tim Lewis, Caledonia’s Investment Director, said:

“We are delighted to have completed our successful sale of The Sloane Club, and we were supported throughout the process by a high quality team at Taylor Wessing. The Sloane Club has grown to be a fantastic asset in the heart of London’s Chelsea and we wish it every success in the future.”

The Taylor Wessing team was led by partner Edward Waldron, supported by senior counsels Ed Story and Louise Tobutt, and associates Jerome Kennedy and Emma Casemore.

Commenting on the transaction, Edward Waldron said:

“It has been a pleasure to work with Caledonia and support them on this transaction. We are very pleased to have advised on a successful sale process and we wish The Sloane Club continued success in the future.”
