Trowers & Hamlins advises purchaser of Clive Christian, the luxury interiors and fragrance brand

29 Sep 2015

Trowers & Hamlins is pleased to have advised EME Investments 5 Limited on the purchase of Clive Christian Limited and its group.

The purchaser is a newly incorporated vehicle set up by EME Capital LLP and its co-investors, which include Sir Brian Souter, Ann Gloag and Jon Moulton.

Clive Christian, famously known for producing "the world's most expensive perfume", trades from department stores such as Harrods, Fortnum & Mason and Selfridges in London, and Saks Fifth Avenue in the US.  In addition to perfumes, Clive Christian also produces luxury furnishings and interiors throughout Europe, North America and the Middle East and is best known for its luxury kitchens.

Following the acquisition, Amy Nelson-Bennett, former executive at Molton Brown, has become Clive Christian's chief executive. Clive Christian himself continues as creative director.

Trowers & Hamlins' long-standing client EME Capital LLP is a boutique finance house which specialises in private equity investments, primarily in the luxury, hospitality and lifestyle sectors in Europe and in offering corporate finance and global capital placement services to its clients.  Trowers & Hamlins previously advised EME Capital LLP in relation to the takeover of Theo Fennell plc, the AIM-traded luxury jewellery business, in 2013.

Tony Poole, Corporate Partner at Trowers & Hamlins commented: "Looking at UK-based luxury brands, this deal represents one of the most prominent the market has seen so far this year.  We are very pleased to have been involved."

The Trowers & Hamlins team was led by Corporate partner Tony Poole and senior associate Ayda Habboush. Intellectual property advice was provided by IP partner Caroline Hayward and senior associate Carly Barrett provided employment advice.  Further specialist support was provided by the firm's real estate and banking and finance teams.
