Dusseldorf, 27 March 2013. Linklaters has advised the WAZ Media Group based in Essen, Germany on the acquisition of the shares in the Zeitungsverlag Westfalen GmbH & Co. KG (ZVW) previously held by Deutsche Druck- und Verlags-GmbH. This purchase of the 13.1% shareholding means WAZ now has full ownership of the regional daily newspaper “Westfälische Rundschau” which it already publishes.

WAZ Media Group is Germany’s third-largest publishing house, owning numerous daily and weekly newspapers as well as online news services, radio stations, printing plants and other service companies.

Linklaters has been assisting the Group in relation to its on-going restructuring measures since last year. The Linklaters team advising on the share acquisition was led by Achim Kirchfeld (Corporate, Dusseldorf). Other team membes included Dr Sebastian Benz (Tax, Düsseldorf), Marco Huchzermeier (Corporate, Düsseldorf) and Dr Tim Mundhenke (Tax, Düsseldorf).
