PARTNER MOVES - Orrick Continues London Growth with a Focus on Private Equity for the Energy & Infrastructure Market

22 Feb 2018

Orrick announced today that Paul Doris has joined the firm as a partner in London. Paul brings a strong focus on M&A and private equity, particularly in the energy and infrastructure sectors. He is the 10th partner addition to Orrick’s European M&A and Private Equity team and the seventh partner to join our London office since 2016.

“Orrick is one of the most active firms in the global energy and infrastructure sector, and Paul adds deep experience in this rapidly transforming market. We’ve worked across the table from him for years, and we’re delighted to add him to our team,” said Anthony Riley, Corporate Regional Leader for Orrick’s European offices and the most active lawyer in UK M&A last year (Mergermarket).

Paul advises on domestic and cross-border transactions, with a focus on wind and solar portfolios. He has experience across Europe, particularly in Spain, as well as in Latin America, India, Africa, the Middle East and Asia. He has acted for the Riverside Company, Vortex (the European renewables platform managed by the private equity arm of EFG Hermes), Solar 21, Macquarie Capital, First State Investments, Vattenfall, Yushan Energy, Diverxia Infraestructuras, PGGM and BTG Pactual, among others.

Orrick’s renewable energy team, which is Chambers UK ranked, was top 10 in the Inframation 2017 league tables for renewable energy globally. Paul will also work closely with Orrick’s Latin America team, led out of the firm’s Houston office. He joins Orrick from Watson Farley & Williams, having also practiced at Freshfields and Skadden.

“Growing our global M&A and PE platform in a way that is aligned with our focus on the energy & infrastructure, finance and tech sectors is a strategic priority. We’re excited to add another practitioner in London of Paul’s caliber,” said Ed Batts, Global Head of Orrick’s M&A and private equity practice. The firm ranked #5 for European private equity deal volume (Pitchbook) and #13 for global M&A deal volume in 2017 (Mergermarket).

“I was drawn to the firm’s global strategy and team. Orrick has a clear sector focus, global reach and a 'one-team' approach. I believe these elements, together with the firm’s constant focus on innovation, are what clients look for and value today,” said Paul.

Paul’s arrival follows the addition last week of James Hargrove, an English lawyer and specialist in international arbitration in the tech, energy and finance sectors, based in Orrick’s Geneva and London offices. This follows the London additions of Ali Ramadan, a rising star in the European tech space, Jacqui Hatfield, a leading advisor on UK and European Fintech and payments regulation, and Ylan Steiner, who focuses on the European VC and PE market. Last month, the firm announced the promotion of four London lawyers to Orrick’s partnership, including Stacy Kim (Technology Companies Group), Scott Morrison (Restructuring); Sushila Nayak (Banking & Finance); and Mandy Perry (Employment Law & Litigation).
