22 Mar 2018

Reed Smith today announced that restructuring and insolvency attorney Aaron Javian has joined the firm as a partner in its Financial Industry Group (FIG) in New York. Aaron joins the firm from Linklaters.

Aaron advises creditors, debtors, new money investors (including hedge funds), administrators and liquidators on all aspects of domestic and cross-border financial restructurings, with particular expertise in Chapter 11 and Chapter 15 proceedings and special insolvency regimes applicable to financial institutions.  Aaron also advises on bankruptcy issues affecting a broad range of complex transactions, including M&A, structured finance and derivative transactions and securitizations. He has deep knowledge of the applicability of bankruptcy “safe harbors” to a wide array of financial transactions in the commodities and securities space.

“Our financial institution and fund clients are increasingly in need of the exact capabilities that Aaron provides,” said Ed Estrada, global chair of Reed Smith’s Financial Industry Group.  “We envision Aaron’s practice as one that complements our highly-regarded group of bankruptcy and restructuring lawyers around the world.”

Aaron’s cross-border restructuring practice centers on advising banks, asset managers, corporations and insolvency practitioners on matters involving numerous local insolvency regimes across key jurisdictions in Europe, South America, Australia and Asia.  For US domestic bankruptcies, he has built a stellar reputation advising secured and unsecured creditors and financial and strategic investors in special situations, both in and out of court.

“Building depth into our financial restructuring expertise in major global markets is a strategic objective of our restructuring and insolvency practice,” said Peter S. Clark II, Global Head of the firm’s Restructuring & Insolvency Group.  “Aaron joining our firm marks a significant step towards meeting that objective, given his cross-border experience and history of guiding financial services institutions through highly complex matters.”

Commenting on his joining Reed Smith, Aaron noted, “Reed Smith’s domestic and international strength in finance and restructuring is ideally suited to my practice.  I am delighted to join such an entrepreneurial team of restructuring and insolvency lawyers and am excited for what we can accomplish on behalf of our clients on Reed Smith’s global platform.”

Aaron received his J.D., cum laude, from Boston College Law School, and his B.A., magna cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania.
