Paul Burns is re-elected as an M&A partner after serving as in-house counsel for leading companies in the life sciences, energy and technology sectors.

NEW YORK – Allen & Overy has announced the re-election of Paul Burns as partner in the firm’s corporate/M&A practice in New York.

Mr. Burns joined Allen & Overy’s corporate practice in 2001 from a leading New York law firm, serving in both the New York and London offices. Specializing in M&A, securities and general corporate matters, he first made partner in 2003. Mr. Burns held strategic GC roles over the past ten years in the life sciences, energy and technology sectors. In 2007, Mr. Burns accepted a dual position with Novartis as General Counsel of the company’s Consumer Division and Head of the Novartis Capital Markets Legal Group, based in Switzerland.

He later became the General Counsel of Novartis’ Pharmaceutical business and oversaw the global legal and compliance functions for the company. Following his five years with Novartis, Paul returned to the U.S. and co-founded North Dakota LNG, a liquefied natural gas production facility, which was first-to-market in producing liquefied natural gas in North Dakota.

In 2015 and 2016, Paul served as the interim General Counsel to CSRA Inc., the NYSE-listed company formed through the combination of CSC's North American Public Sector business and SRA International. Additionally, in 2016 and 2017 he acted as Head of Legal Integration for DXC Technology, in connection with Hewlett Packard Enterprise Service’s merger with CSC.

Following his various in-house leadership roles, Mr. Burns rejoined Allen & Overy in 2017, to support the firm’s corporate practice in New York.

“Paul’s deep sector knowledge and proven track-record at both Allen & Overy and in-house make him a significant addition to our team,” said Eric Shube, Partner and Head of the U.S. Corporate practice. “Paul’s re-election is part of our plan for continued growth in the U.S. with top-quality talent. We are thrilled to have him back in the partnership.”
