PARTNER MOVES - Ashurst continues to grow APAC corporate capability

15 Feb 2019

International law firm Ashurst announces the appointment of Waltter Kulvik as a partner in its corporate transaction practice in Singapore. It is the firm's fourth partner appointment in the Asia Pacific corporate practice this year.

Waltter, who joins from Sidley Austin, specialises in cross-border M&A and corporate work, with a focus towards infrastructure, power and real estate asset classes. His practice also involves joint ventures, in particular acting for Asian clients on joint ventures with western businesses, reorganisations and restructurings as well as venture capital. Waltter began his career at Gibson Dunn in London, prior to moving to Singapore, where he specialised in private equity before focusing on private M&A.

Mark Stanbridge, Asia corporate head, commented:

""Waltter's appointment is a further demonstration of the growth of our corporate practice in Singapore, and of our commitment to continue to invest in Asia to broaden and deepen our capabilities. There are significant opportunities that fit well with our regional strategic focus on the energy, infrastructure and private equity industries on which Waltter will help us capitalise. He has extensive experience in cross-border and complex corporate transactions within the Southeast Asian region, which will complement and build on the strength of our Asian corporate team.""

Asia regional head Patrick Phua added:

""Growing our corporate offering in Singapore shows the strong commitment of the firm to Southeast Asia. Waltter is a highly respected and experienced practitioner and I am confident that he will deliver great results for clients and play a key role in further developing our capability in Asia.""

Ashurst's Asia Pacific corporate practice has recently seen the addition of Michelle Phang, who joined as co-lead of Ashurst ADTLaw's corporate practice, and two heavyweight partners in Sydney, Greg Golding and Rob Hanley, each bringing three decades of experience advising on complex cross-border transactions.
