Early in his career, Kemp’s practice focused on commercial real estate transactions, and later, he served as senior attorney with the Mississippi Secretary of State, where his responsibilities included the regulation and management of public lands. From 1994 to 2014, he was in-house at First American Financial Corporation (NYSE: FAF), most recently as Deputy General Counsel. He joins from another law firm.

“Tim is a former Deputy General Counsel, chief regulatory and government relations counsel, and chief compliance officer for a Fortune 500 public insurance and bank holding company with international operations, a powerful combination of in-house, government, and law firm experience. We are proud that Tim chose Greenberg Traurig to expand his practice,” said Fred E. Karlinsky and Thomas J. Bond, co-chairs of Greenberg Traurig’s Insurance Regulatory & Transactions Practice, in a joint statement. “His experience in both the insurance and financial services sectors will be an asset to the Washington, D.C. office and opens up a new, exciting dimension to our practice.”

“We are fortunate to have Tim join us given his unique experience mix of legal, regulatory, and operational experience,” said Laura Metcoff Klaus and Robert Mangas, co-managing shareholders of the Washington, D.C. office, in a joint statement. “His experience as an in-house business lawyer resonates across our client base, markets, and areas of practice. We look forward to working with his clients as he brings new capabilities to our seasoned teams.”

Kemp focuses his practice on transactions and a wide range of regulatory matters involving insurance entities and financial institutions, representing them before federal and state insurance and banking regulators and consumer protection agencies across the country. He also guides clients on matters related to the acquisition and integration of regulated entities, compliance, regulatory examinations, investigations and enforcement actions, corporate governance, enterprise risk management, and remediation planning.

In addition, for clients in the settlement services industry, Kemp has a broad background in real estate, title insurance and escrow operations and practices, home warranty, and service contracts. He routinely assists businesses engaged in these industries and their partners, vendors, and clients in developing compliant but pragmatic solutions designed to further business objectives.

“Greenberg Traurig’s reputation, market penetration, and record of accomplishments in insurance, government, and financial services law, among others, guided my decision to join the firm,” Kemp said. “I look forward to continuing to grow my experience and practice as a member of this collaborative, comprehensive, and global team known for its work in Washington, D.C. and beyond.”

Kemp received his J.D. from the University of Mississippi and his B.B.A. from Millsaps College. He is admitted to practice law in the District of Columbia, New York, Illinois, Tennessee, and Mississippi. Kemp is an avid author and speaker.
